PWSC Intramural – Shep Messing Soccer Program

Ages 4-8 years old

PWSC has teamed up with Shep Messing––former goalkeeper for the US National Team and member of New York Cosmos professional soccer team––to bring our seasonal intramural programs to the next level for boys and girls aged 4-8 years old. Shep Messing Soccer will be a great partner with the JIGS Soccer Academy trainers - from helping design the structure of the program to providing soccer tips to players on game day!

Program Highlights:

  • Under 5 boys and girls (Little Kickers) $180/player:
    • 1 weekend session for 1 hours including instruction and games for 8 weeks
  • Under 6 - Under 9 boys and girls (Prime) $270/player:
    • 1 weekday 1 hour training sessions per week for 8 weeks
    • 1 weekend 1.25 hours session of training and in-house league games for 8 weeks
  • Training by the JIGS Soccer Academy
  • In-house league by Shep Messing Soccer
  • One club soccer jersey (One per Fall or Spring)
  • Participation and achievement trophies (Spring only)

All players will be registered and compete by Birth Year. "U" is shorthand for "Under" - so U5 means under 5 or 4 years-old. Age groups will be classified as follows:

  • U5 – 2015
  • U6 – 2014
  • U7 – 2013
  • U8 – 2012
  • U9 – 2011

PWSC Intramural – Shep Messing Soccer is divided into 2 separate programs:

  • Little Kickers (U5)
  • Prime (U6-U9)

What are the details of the program?

Little Kickers: Our entry program for 4 and 5-year old players is designed to introduce players to soccer and teach them to enjoy the game through fun drills and small-sided games. There is a 1-hour Saturday session including instruction and games for this age group.

Prime (U6-U9): After players complete the Little Kickers program they move up to play Prime. This program will build on the skills players acquired from LK and will provide players the opportunity to play in an in-house league games to apply their skills in a game setting.

  • Prime consists of 1 training session during the week for 1 hour over 8 weeks with trainers from the JIGS Soccer Academy.

AND

Prime players will also have 1 weekend day session that is divided into 2 parts:

  • The first 25 minutes the players will spend with JIGS Soccer Academy trainers learning fundamental skills that will be applied in a game setting
  • The training will be followed up by ~30 minutes of the Shep Messing Soccer in-house league games. Players will be divided into permanent teams of approximately 6 players. They will participate in an organized 4v4 or 5v5 game
  • The games will be refereed by high school students who play on PWSC soccer teams
    • Players will be organized by skill so that we can maximize development by ensuring the teams are evenly matched
    • In-house league games will be run with a parent apprentice team manager to organize players once training is complete and do the subbing of players
    • These games will be used to both teach the players how to play, but also to develop future parent managers for travel soccer

Every Saturday will be a soccer festival! There will be an age group training in a designated training area while at the same time another age group is playing in-house league games. There will be a field coordinators to make sure that players are moved throughout the day smoothly and can answer any questions you may have. On some weekends, we will bring in fun activities for the players to visit once their session ends.

Select Travel (Prime Program)We also offer a "select travel" program for players in the Prime Program.  These players have gone through an independent evaluation by the PWSC Director of Coaching and his staff and are deemed to be 'travel-ready'.  The program is intended for skilled players who want to dedicate their focus to soccer and requires a strong commitment to the sport.  Each age-group team will be supervised by a certified trainer who will oversee both individual and team development.  Practices will be held twice a week with a game on the weekend.  Players will participate in a 6v6 (includes a goalie) travel league against other local Nassau soccer teams.  If you still have an interest , but did not previously tryout or notify us of your interest, please email the club's Director of Coaching, Gerneil "Jigsy" Lorne, at jigssoccerschool@gmail.com.
