FULL TRYOUTS SCHEDULE IN THE TABLE BELOW

Our travel soccer program features the best professional training staff in the region, provided by Jigs Soccer Academy, as well as a club-based style and curriculum that makes movement between teams (either on a permanent or week-to-week basis) seamless within our club.  See below for more about our travel soccer model and philosophies.

Our annual travel soccer registration fee is expected to be in the range of $1375-$1425 for the 2023-24 soccer year (subject to final board review of budget).  Consistent with the 2022-23 travel soccer year, this is intended to be a fairly all-in fee, which covers the following items:

1. All league registration, carding and insurance fees for the fall and spring soccer seasons.  The fee also includes tournament registration fees of  up to $500 per team for a tournament of each team's choosing.
2. Full Adidas uniform kit, including shorts, blue jersey, grey jersey, socks and reversible pinnies.  This is a $150 retail value, included in the program fee (unlike most other clubs/programs, which require this to be purchases separately).  Additional items are available at additional cost, including backpacks, training pants and jackets.
3. PWSC Branded Ultrasoft Soccer Ball ($30 retail value).
4. All professional training fees for the spring and fall league seasons, which typically includes 20-24 practices (90 minutes each) and 7-9 league games on weekends (where a professional trainer provided by Jigs Soccer School will be present for all practices and games) for each season, resulting in approximately 40-50 practices and 14-18 league games.  Over the course of the year, that's more than 100 hours of professional training in practices and games!
5. Winter gym fees and training fees for each team - up to 8 weekly practices during winter session, with professional trainers at each session.
6. All travel soccer players will receive a subscription to an at-home training app - Techne.  This is a useful app that provides a great platform for at-home training on off-days, and encourages players to compete with other teammates and club members to log the most training time on the app.  The individual subscription to Techne would be over $100 per year, yet it will be provided at no additional cost to our players through a club subscription.
7. The club will be utilizing Veo cameras to record some games for teams (not all games will be recorded, but goal is to get at least 1-2 games per season recorded).  There are no extra fees to players to utilize or view the recorded games.

Some items NOT included in the annual travel soccer fee include: (i) tournament training fees and tournament registration fees in excess of team stipend, (ii) winter league fees or additional winter training fees on top of the 8 club-sponsored practice sessions, (iii) optional pre-season training camps, (iv) travel expenses for teams and/or trainers for destination tournaments, and (v) any other optional team activities and expenses outside of the standard PWSC annual travel program outlined above.  Team managers will discuss any optional activities with their respective teams during the year.

The Port Washington Soccer Club provides scholarships and financial assistance to both intramural and travel soccer players every year.  We do not provide "merit" scholarships, and ask that only families who truly cannot afford the costs of our program apply for a scholarship.  In order to request a scholarship for the 2023-24 travel soccer program, there will be a link to apply prior to team registrations (check back for details).  If your application is approved, you will receive a code to register for travel soccer at a discounted price, once that registration is activated.  Please be sure to apply for the scholarship before registering for a paid program, so that you are able to apply the discount before paying for the program.  Registration for tryouts is free and does not require a scholarship code.

Tryouts (U9 and up) starting May 8, 2023!  

We will be holding boys and girls age group tryouts / evaluations for all age groups U9 (birth year 2015) and above.   This is for travel teams that will compete during the 2023-24 school year (both fall and spring seasons).

For our rising U9's (new teams), we will be holding formal tryouts on the dates noted below.  For older age groups, the tryouts are practice sessions for existing teams in those age groups, so it is a bit less formal and more of a workout with the team and the trainer.  Under our current model, trainers for each age group will discuss roster placements for next year with the Director of Coaching, to ensure proper placements of players.

Please arrive 15 minutes early so that your child can be assigned a random tryout pinnie number and we can promptly begin the evaluations.  

All sessions that are at Harbor Links will be held on Field 4, which is the furthest back to the left when entering from the athletic fields/ executive course parking lot.

For Rising U9's (Birth Year 2015):

Players are selected to participate on teams of between 10-12 players and must commit to participate on an annual basis.  The program runs the entire 2022-23 school year and consists of an assigned professional trainer, late summer boot camp, a Fall and Spring league game season, two 90-minute practices per week during league seasons, at least one tournament, winter training, and optional winter leagues.  The program fee is estimated to be approximately $1350-1400 for the year, although there may be some additional costs ($100-$300) for teams that opt to participate in additional activities and tournaments.  Starting with the 2021-22, the PWSC is including in the annual program fee a full Adidas uniform kit ($120+ retail value) and a PWSC branded soccer ball ($30 retail value)!  (NOTE: Kits are expected to last for 2 years, and the club will re-outfit existing players every other year (new players will get their first kit at no additional cost).  Additional kit items are available for purchase if needed. )

Overall, we believe this is a great value for a year of soccer that provides, for a single fee that can be paid in installments during the course of the year, more than 75 hours of professionally run practices and games, and access to additional clinics and training options (some free, some for an additional cost).  Each spring, for the U9-U13 age groups, new tryouts are conducted and players will have an opportunity to move between teams based upon their developmental progress, and there are opportunities to work out and play games with other age-appropriate teams from time to time, for no additional cost.  Players will be evaluated on a combination of skill, athleticism, and tactical awareness. 

Tryouts will be conducted by the JIGS Soccer Academy at the locations noted in the table below.  All rising U9 players who are interested in playing travel soccer next year must tryout to be considered for a team.   Once rosters are filled, we cannot admit additional players into the program.

All players are required to bring a size 4 ball, cleats, and have shin guards under their socks.  Bring plenty of water as well.

Each new team will also need a volunteer parent manager and an assistant manager to help organize the team and communicate between coach, players, parents, other teams, referees, and the club.  During games they are also on the sideline assisting the professional trainer to assist with team management.  As such, managers must go through a formal risk management process and will be trained on the role by other volunteers in the club.  If you have an interest please let us know. 

For Rising U10's and Up:

For this year, we are implementing a less formal tryout process for U10's and up, since we already have teams formed.  For players on existing teams, the tryouts will be at one of the existing training sessions for their age group.  In addition to the specific tryout dates, our trainers are continually evaluating their rosters during the course of the year, to ensure proper placement for the following year.  With our club-based model, movement among teams is relatively seamless, even if necessary during the middle of the year.

Any sessions being held at Harbor Links will be on Field 4, which is the field toward the back left at the facility.  The parking for the soccer fields is in the first lot on the left when entering the Harbor Links facility (shared with the Executive Course and Mini-Golf).

Unless you've received permission from our Director of Coaching, players should attend the tryouts for their specific birth year, as noted in the table below.  Permission to play "up" is subject to approval on a case-by-base basis, and no players are permitted to play "down" to a younger age group (even if it is the group that matches up to their school grade), per league restrictions.
