After successfully introducing the Diamond League concept to our Boys and Girls U7 age groups in the Spring 2024 season, we are expanding for the Fall 2025 season to the U7 (2019) and U8 (2018) age group as well. This is for 1st and 2nd grade children.  

The Diamond League program is a continuation of the traditional intramural program we've run for years.  While we've always introduced gameplay to the U7 and U8 age groups as early as possible each season, Diamond League creates a bit of fun competition within the gameplay.  Rest assured, the focus remains on fun, and the parents fully embraced that last fall, limited the sounds from the sidelines to cheering, and not instruction (well done, parents!).  The Jigs staff is very intentional in their tactics, including, at times, staying a bit quiet and letting players figure things out on their own - we can do this in a controlled in-house league environment.

Both programs will follow the same general structure outlined below, although we will always make adjustments as needed to ensure a positive experience for our players.

We are offering two dates to pick up uniform kits and equipment prior to the start of the season:

• Friday 9/5 at 5:30-7:30pm at Sosua Elementary
   
• The distributions will be held at Sousa Elementary.  If you are unable to attend either of these dates/times, everything will be available for you at your child's first weekend session. 

Additionally, we will hold a (virtual) parent information session on 9/3 at 8:30pm

Over the first 2 weeks of the season, Jigs and his staff will continue evaluations of all players in the U7 and U8 programs, and will form teams of approximately 8 players per team, with the intent to balance out the rosters as best as possible based on their evaluations.  Each player will be assigned to a team for the season, and all players will participate in a “house” Diamond League every Saturday (see schedule above).  There will no longer be a Sunday option for the U7 or U8 programs, so that we can hold our league games each Saturday, and leave Sundays open for the club-to-club festivals.  Each team will play 2 games (20-25 minutes each) during the regular Saturday time slot, with games played on our intramural fields, 4v4 format with no goalies (note that this is the US Soccer Federation’s recommended format for this age group, not just something we’ve come up with).  Games will be reffed/coached/managed by Jigs and club staff, with subs on the fly, and with procedures in place to account for teams that are short players that day, to ensure all games are played each week.  All players will wear the regular intramural reversible uniform kit for their games.

The weekday sessions (see schedule above) will continue a similar format as we have done in past seasons, with drills and scrimmages.  However, there will be no “Pods” for the U7 or U8 programs, and players will train with their assigned teams.  There will be no teammate requests; all players will be assigned to teams as determined by Jigs and his staff to best level the teams.
